Description:

From slavery to writing the U.S. Constitution, Western expansion, and emergence as a superpower, the United States has profoundly affected world history. The United States History microcredential provides a comprehensive understanding of major events and trends in U.S. history that will prepare you to research and teach the history of the American people and their institutions.

This microcredential allows MA and PhD students to establish and advertise expertise in United States history that is useful in applying for university, community college, and high school history teaching jobs. It shows regional expertise, which is valued by government agencies, and provides an on-ramp to MA and PhD programs in the History Department and related fields.

Complete three of the following courses:

  • HIST 801 - Historiography (3 credits)
  • HIST 907 - Colonial/Revolutionary America (3 credits)
  • HIST 908 - Nineteenth-Century America (3 credits)
  • HIST 909 - Twentieth-Century America (3 credits)
  • HIST 928 - Seminar in American History (3 credits)
  • HIST 983 - Topics in Military History (3 credits)
  • HIST 984 - Topics in American History (3 credits)
