Description:
Examine the foundations of premodern cultures with engaging lectures and activities. By studying the preindustrial past, you will differentiate between the present and past, recognizing how the past was different and how we arrived at the current moment.
Through interdisciplinary analysis, you will explore essential concepts, including the evaluation and use of tools to study arts and societies from ca. 1200 BCE–1500 CE. You will work with a variety of historical artifacts and literary documents, learning to identify and analyze relationships between the present and past, art and culture, and various disciplinary specializations. This knowledge will equip you to assess issues like climate change, structural inequalities, and racial and economic justice.
