Phonics and Word Recognition Strategies Reading for Paraeducators

College of Education

Description

Strengthen early readers through the Science of Reading framework by applying explicit phonics instruction, selecting and using decodable texts, and implementing strategies for high-frequency word recognition. Explore evidence-based practices and scaffold reading instruction to support a wide representation of learners, including those with reading difficulties. As you apply structured literacy principles to classroom scenarios, you will demonstrate your understanding of effective reading instruction that fosters foundational skills for early readers.

The Phonics and Word Recognition Strategies for Paraeducators microcredential is designed for those supporting literacy development in K–6 classrooms. You will complete authentic assignments through job-embedded tasks such as lesson planning, decodable text analysis, and strategy demonstrations using orthographic mapping. Learning content requires approximately 15 hours to complete. To successfully earn the microcredential badge, you must achieve at least 80% of the point value on assignments.
