K–6 Literacy Skills for Paraeducators
College of Education
Description
Support early literacy development through structured literary practices grounded in the Science of Reading. Learn to apply evidence-based strategies that enhance reading fluency, comprehension, and writing for a wide range of learners, including those with reading difficulties. Through classroom-based scenarios, you will analyze how fluency impacts comprehension, explore the connection between reading and writing, and apply scaffolding techniques to support sentence and paragraph development. As a result, you will demonstrate your understanding of effective literacy instruction and communicate key concepts with confidence.
The K–6 Literacy Skills for Paraeducators microcredential is designed for those working to improve literacy outcomes among children in PreK–6 settings. You will complete practical assignments and objective assessments as you apply reading strategies. Learning content requires approximately 15 hours to complete. To successfully earn the microcredential badge, you must achieve at least 80% of the point value on assignments.
