Grant Writing Basics
K-State Research and Extension
Description
Grant Writing Basics is an applied grant writing course for new and experienced practitioners who want to strengthen their ability to develop competitive grant proposals. You will learn how to identify grant opportunities, use data to document community needs, write clear problem statements, and build strong outcomes, activities, evaluation plans, and budgets. The course emphasizes practical grant writing skills alongside durable strengths in professional communication, critical thinking, and collaboration.
Graduates frequently report increased confidence in their grant-writing abilities and have gone on to secure funding for projects such as park improvements, walking trails, building restoration, leadership programs, arts initiatives, festivals and other community priorities.
This online microcredential includes two live, 3-hour synchronous sessions supported by a rich set of resources available before, during and after the course. You are encouraged to bring current grant ideas or draft proposals to work on in real time. Interactive discussions, peer feedback and collaborative activities help you learn from others, expand your perspective and refresh your approach to grant development.
This microcredential is part of the Grant Writing and Development Achievement Badge. The Achievement Badge recognizes applied competency across interpersonal, organizational, and cultural conflict management contexts and is automatically awarded upon completion of the full pathway.
