Foundations of Emotional Well-Being and Support Skills for Veterinary Students

Description:

This microcredential will provide veterinary medicine students with foundational skills in facilitating conversations with individuals who are distressed, including listening skills, empathic response, and when and how to refer individuals to mental health professionals. Students will learn:

  • The ethics of supportive relationships
  • How to conduct supportive conversations
  • The difference between active listening and advice-giving
  • How to identify and refer someone in distress who needs higher level care

Students will complete readings, participate in group discussions, and receive training in these foundational skills. To successfully complete the microcredential and earn a digital badge, students must achieve a minimum attendance and participation of 85% of scheduled meetings/activities.

Only students enrolled in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program at Kansas State University are eligible and must be pre-approved. Questions should be directed to Dr. Adryanna Drake.
