Exploring Earth’s Mineral Resources
College of Arts and Sciences
Description
Learn the science of minerals to solve problems and communicate solutions. Using scientific techniques, you will identify economically significant minerals and the common igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks that host mineral deposits. You will apply physical chemistry to illustrate mineral formation and understand the relationships between different types of rocks, mineral deposits, geological structures and hydrothermal fluid-flow in the crust, and plate tectonics.
Exploring Earth's Mineral Resources includes courses in Mineralogy, Petrology and Economic Geology. Through assignments, projects and assessments, you must demonstrate mastery of the coursework to receive a digital badge. Mineralogy and Petrology mastery requires a minimum grade of 70%. Mastery of Economic Geology requires a minimum grade of 80%.
