College of Arts and Sciences

Description

Climate change is not just an environmental issue; it is a global challenge that affects every aspect of life, from human health to global economies. The Earth’s Past and Future Climate microcredential provides critical insights into Earth's climate systems, helping you understand natural variability and human-induced changes. You will interpret environmental proxies for climate change and articulate the relevance of these changes to societal issues. Through these courses, you will engage with geoscience perspectives on Earth’s changing climate and practice technical skills in geochemistry, sedimentary geology, environmental proxy interpretation, and climate data analysis.

Upon successful completion of the microcredential, you will be able to demonstrate proficiency in addressing pressing climate challenges, benefiting both scientific advancement and societal adaptability. You will develop your critical thinking, science communication, and ethical and global awareness in order to excel in science, policy, and industry roles.

Choose three of the following courses:

  • GEOL 200 – Earth Through Time (3 credits)
  • GEOL 540 – Geological Record of Climate Change (3 credits)
  • GEOL 630 – Sedimentology and Stratigraphy (3 credits)
  • GEOG 535 – Global Climatology and Climate Change (4 credits)

To successfully complete this microcredential and earn a digital badge, you must complete three of the four listed courses and achieve a minimum grade of 70% (equivalent to a “C”) in the courses.
